Jump School Stories

Covertness threatened a cool jump school story, so here's his "in"..lol I'll start the thread..

I was assigned to Delta Company, "The Rock", in November of '95. There were a little over 300 trainees in the company, only 13 of us were Marines. One was Air Force, the rest were Army. The 1stSgt snatched me and my buddy up right away. He said that jumping out of airplanes was Army business, and asked us what the hell we thought we were doing there. He looked at our records and saw that we had successfully completed the airborne physical fitness test a week or two prior. It wasn't recent enough for him. He sent us to the USMC liasson, who recognized the game the 1stSgt was playing.. The Marine SSgt in the office there at Ft. Benning asked us how fast we could run, how many pushups we could do, etc.. We told him. He pencil-fucked the paperwork, told us to sprint around the block through the sprinklers, and report back to the 1stSgt. When we got back to Delta we were late for the initial brief. The room full of soldiers snickered at us. The 1stSgt chewed the room's ass, telling them that Marines might be the only ones holding the line next to them someday, and that they'd better shut their sucks. He admitted us to the company, and I was impressed.

Trainees were required to do 8 dead-hang pullups in front of a "black hat" each time we entered the chow hall. The senior Marine (a recon captain) had ordered us to do 10, plus climb OVER the bar to enter the chow hall. We did, and it drove our instructors crazy. They made us re-do our pullups, but we did them the same every time. 10 and over. They finally quit fucking with us about it, and it became standard fare that the Marines did 10 and went over. Everyone else did their 8 and under. Good times.
