Jesus, I wish I could find who originated this tactic and beat the fuck out of him. I wonder how many patrols have literally ran into ambushes because every last member was worn the fuck out and overheating, and their focus turned completely inward on their own misery.

If you're going to run everywhere, your Marines will get lax on security and stop paying attention. If you're not going to be paying attention, you might as well be in a goddamn vehicle anyway, because it's a hell of a lot faster and it's armored, and you have your heavy weapons with you that way. And if you need to patrol an area that is so closed in that vehicles can't get there, there will be a lot of cover for you to utilize.

You can make yourself a hard target for snipers without running everywhere. Running in a straight line will get you shot just as surely as walking in a straight line anyway, so the trick is not to present youself as a stationary target from any direction - it takes a good sniper about three seconds to aquire a target, get his breathing under control, and squeeze the trigger - if you so much as change direction or pace measurably enough to get you out of his cross hairs at least once every three seconds, he'll have a bitch of a time drawing a bead on you.
