Re: LRSU's still around?
LRSU - Still around, the 82nd also has them
Due to the complex mission of the Long-Range Surveillance Unit (LRSU) soldier, LRSU soldiers must be mature, physically fit, mentally strong and able to work closely within a small group, but must be able to think and act independently as well. All prospective soldiers will have an initial interview with the LRSU Commander and First Sergeant. After passing the initial interview, prospective soldiers will be attached to the LRS for a period of 90 days in order to evaluate their physical fitness, maturity, mental stability and ability to work within a small group. In the event the soldier is not selected, the LRS Commander must counsel the soldier on why they were not selected during out-processing. All prospective LRSU soldiers must meet the following requirements:
a. Airborne qualified (Specialist or Corporal and below)
b. Airborne and Ranger Qualified (Sergeant and above)
c. GT score of 110 or above
d. Must agree to volunteer for airborne and ranger schools (if applicable)
e. Meet US Army height and weight or body fat standards per AR 600-9
f. No prior disciplinary problems
g. No history of drug or alcohol abuse
During the 90 days the prospective soldier is attached to the LRS, he will be administered and must pass to standard the following tests:
a. The Army Physical Fitness Test (Ranger school standards).
b. Pass the Combat Water Survival Test.
c. Complete a 5-mile run within 40 minutes.
d. Complete a 12-mile road march within 3 hours while carrying 35 pounds.
e. Pass a written land navigation test.
f. Complete a day and night land navigation practical exercise.
g. Demonstrate proficiency in basic LRSU team skills (operation of HF radios, burst devices and construction of antennas and basic vehicle identification)
