The only officers on MSG duty are at the Company level. Generally there are 3-4....the Company C.O., a Lt.Col and 2 to 3 Inspecting Officers who are either 1st Lieutenants or Captains. The Det Cmdr for each Det can be a SSgt to MGysgt depending on the size of the Det.....which range in size from a minimum of 5 E-5s and below to as many as 30 or more. In addition if a Det has approximately 15 or more Watch Standers (E-5s and below) the Det will have an Asst Det Cmdr who is normally a SSgt. In Rome the Det consisted of me (MSgt), an Asst Det Cmdr and 15 watch standers. In Cairo I had 32 watch standers and an Asst Det Cmdr. When they call MSG Duty Independent Duty they mean just that. In Rome my Company was in Frankfurt Germany. In Cairo the Company was in Casablanca Morocco. I saw my Company Officers about 4 times a year.
