I know a german panzerler (Tank crew member) who told me that of his unit something like half of the fallen went to diarrhea during the Russian campaign.

He spent days in his tank smeared with the stuff.

What is suprising is thinking that then my grandad was a schoolchild and he lived some great changes in his lifetime.
