In addition if a Det has approximately 15 or more Watch Standers (E-5s and below) the Det will have an Asst Det Cmdr who is normally a SSgt. In Rome the Det consisted of me (MSgt), an Asst Det Cmdr and 15 watch standers. In Cairo I had 32 watch standers and an Asst Det Cmdr. When they call MSG Duty Independent Duty they mean just that. In Rome my Company was in Frankfurt Germany. In Cairo the Company was in Casablanca Morocco. I saw my Company Officers about 4 times a year.

Sorry I should have added this to the above, there are something like 8 companies in the MSG Battalion now...........so not counting the Company COs there are about 24 slots for officers on MSG duty. Also, the size of each Det is dictated by the number of posts assigned and the hours they must be manned. When I was in Cairo, my Det was the second largest on the program. I dont know if that is true anymore or not.
