Being of an other part of the world I must say many people I know find it odd that the US forces are, for what we know, the only ones that issue a recognition for wounds.

This said I do not mean the Purple Hart to be not indicative of dedication.

The guy went to a war zone, came back with his face rather mangled up and spent a lenghty time in hospital, he doesn't want the medal back, honour to him for being morally honest over the matter.

As some posts above indicate, the mess was not awarding the medal, was the stile and behaviour of those in charge of telling the same was being taken back.
