I was at MCRD San Diego twice, once for Boot Camp and once as a Drill Instructor. When I was a recruit we had a platoon member who was from San Diego and could practically see his girl friends house up the hill behind the Pacific Coast High Way.........he would stand looking wistfully up that hill for as long as he could get away with it every day. As for the planes.........when I was a Drill Instructor nothing was more frustrating than watching you platoon march in three different directions because the members either didnt hear or misheard your last command over the jet engine roar.

I was over seas on Embassy Duty when it came time to retire which gave me the right to request any Marine Base to retire on.......I went back to where it all started and retired at MCRD San Diego on 22 Feb 1991.
