In dealing with clearances, they want you to be honest, so noone has the chance to blackmail you and do things you should not do, like try and make you steal stuff for them or they rat on you for lying. As for polygraphs, we started taking them because we also started sending our reports to the NSA and since we are dealing with them is why we started taking polygraphs.
