Re: Presidential Support

Ok my memory is hazy as this was a minor event, but it might help.

During my eight week of boot camp, all of the recruits who were infantry were pulled aside one day. We were assembled in a vacant squad bay with all the other infantry recruits from the entire company. We were given a brief about this kind of Presidential guard duty and asked to sign a paper if we were interested. We were given I think two days to sign up.

When we got back to our squad bay, the rest of the platoon was out somewhere. One of our DIs was in a rare mood where he bullshitted with us a little bit. We asked him about the duty, and he was like, "Look, are any of you interested in guarding the President?" No one was, so he said, "Then just don't sign. It's not big deal."

Haven't thought about that since.
