Ranger Soldier of Year chosen
75th Ranger Regiment Public Affairs
The 75th Ranger Regiment named Spc. James K. Campbell, B Company, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, the regiment's Soldier of the Year recently.
"This award was established to recognize the very best of a unit," said Sgt. Maj. Hu Rhodes, president of the Soldier of the Year board. "Specialist Campbell has identified himself as the very best Soldier in the 75th Ranger Regiment."
The annual competition is a two-day event, which includes a physical fitness test, a written exam, a written essay event, day and night land navigation courses, hands-on common task tests and an oral board.
The regiment conducts the competition annually to foster a spirit of competitiveness.
Campbell, 20, was also 3rd Battalion's Soldier of the Month, Quarter and Year. He has deployed once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon.
