Re: Meu
There are a lot of good training opportunities (a lot of great opportunities period) on a MEU, but the place where you should be focusing all your energy on right now is in Iraq. I know it was a big deal for the marines in my unit. Back in June they came and needed nine Zodiac cockswains for a MEU that was supposed to go on a Med float, but of course no one would volunteer because we were right in the middle of our six month work-up for Iraq and we were so tight no one would volunteer. They had to be "voluntold" to go. Just when they got used to the idea, they were told the beginning of this month that they were going to Iraq after all.
That's an idea of how uncertain all of that kind of stuff is in the Marine Corps in wartime. If you are joining the Corps as a career, you could get a chance to go on a MEU in the first few years. But if you're as moto as you seem (and you seem pretty moto) you'd turn down the opportunity if the MEU wasn't eventually going to spit you out in Iraq. By the way, I love your convictions about going for infantry. I was the same way and I couldn't imagine any other MOS. Trust me, Lamm. You'll get a sh*%load of training opportunities in the infantry.
