Re: Air assault wings

Congratulations to both of you young troopers. The badges are the awards you are most proud of; you worked the hardest to earn them.

When I served with the 101st it was still an all-paratrooper unit. It started the transition to Airmobile in late '67, then eventually Air Assault. While I was with them in Nam, JUN66-JUN67, it was just the 1st Bde., consisting of 1/327, 2/327, and 2/502. There was also part of the 326th Eng., and 320th Arty.

The Air Assault School at Ft. Campbell is named after Cmd. S/Maj Walter Sabalauski. He was my 1st Sgt. in Nam. I stood at attention while Gen. Westmoreland awarded him the DSC for his actions at Dak To. A soldier's soldier.
