Former 82nd Airborne Commander to Retire

(11/03/04 - FORT BRAGG) — The former commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division is retiring next week after more than 30 years in the Army.
Major General Charles Swannack Junior most recently was assigned as deputy commanding general of the 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg. He commanded the 82nd from 2002 to 2004 and personally led soldiers during combat operations in Iraq.

Swannack's farewell ceremony is scheduled for Monday morning at Fort Bragg.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 18th Airborne Corps will welcome Major General Virgil Packett the Second as its new deputy commander.
