There is an SF unit in my hometown and the recruiter told me that no one over the age of 32 that he has sent to the SFAS and then to SFQC has ever passed. A buddy of mine told me that the body at my age just can't handle the day to day physical punishment for 24 days. I know for a fact that there are many older special forces troops out there. Can any of you older vets give little advice? I desperately want to serve my country again but I want to do it with the best out there. I hate being told I can't achieve something, It just makes me work out that much harder! Please help.
When I went through SFAS we had several guys that were older. At that time, to apply for SF you had to be an E5 if enlisted and an O3 if an officer. So a lot of the guys were "older". Some made it, some didn't. Physical fitness is important in SFAS (that's a given), but more important is attitude and mental toughness. IMHO. I saw guys that were fit as fiddle not get selected and I saw guys that struggled physically but were mentally tough get selected. Just an observation.
