Cannon Fire

I was wondering if anyone out there is a 13E and has some information about what I can expect at AIT this summer. I have already been to basic, so I am trying to prepare myself for what is coming at Fort Sill. Thanks.

Re: Cannon Fire

I just graduated from Ft. Sill myself on 10 Feb. I am a 13M (MLRS crewmember). I'm not sure what to say about your MOS but as for where you are going I can say at least you get to sleep in the Battalion Barracks. My barracks were across the street from the rest of Battalion 2/80th FATC. We called it the trailer park because it does resemble one pretty well, being five seperate structures; one each for the four Platoons and one for CQ. It was kind of nice though because it was quieter over there. BUt the only MOS's over there are the 13M, 13P, and one other but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Good luck though and watch out for the Marines there, I think they feel a little out of place and outnumbered .

Re: Cannon Fire

What I know about Army MOS codes could fit on the head of a pin. But Cannon Fire Direction Specialist sounds like what the Marines call Fire Direction Control Man. They work in the Fire Direction Control (FDC) and plot and figure target data from the FO's , TOT's, Register Targets, and maintain other data.

They also have cool nick names given to them by the Cannoneers and FO's. Some of these include but are not limited to

Fresh Donuts and Coffee
Fritos, Dorritos, and Cheetos
Fresh Dry Cammies
Charts and Darts
F*cked up, Dumb and Confused

As far as the other MOS's in Arty are concerned FDC is the root of all evil in the Arty world. They are way you fire 6 round adjustment missions and still have 2 rounds out of sheaf on the FFE. They are the reason cannon cockers get woken an hour after hitting the rack...because the round count board in FDC is screwed so someone has to count projos and fuses.

Have a blast.
