Re: Promotion
c/Group Commander? What is that like being a Regimental Commander or something? How big is a group exactly in AFJROTC?

Re: Promotion
oh no, not this again. We had a never ending argument about the size of a group on the old board... Congrats Geek(geeks rule the night just like Wendys)! So your unit changes commanders twice a year? that's cool. i know a lot of units that do that. We don't. We have one commander all year. I kinda like that better. Give that commander more time to get stuff done so it's not like, he just gets used to his job and has to step done and the corps goes on hold while everyone's adjusting to new jobs AGAIN. BTW- I think the number for graduating to a wing is like, 225-250. somewhere around there.

Re: Promotion
No, we don't switch Regimental Commanders during the year. Usually unless someone fucks up they hold a billet for one year with no change, then move on to holding a higher billet the next year. So a wing would be the total number of AFJROTC Cadets in your Unit? Now is a Wing similiar or different from a Group? We're organized into 1 Regiment, 2 Battalions, 10 Companies, 20 Platoons, and about 60 Squads. We have about 450 Cadets strong in my Regiment. We have a Regimental Commander and Executive Officer, whose billets are just about garanteed to stay that way for the whole year, barring a major fuck up. We have 10 Company Commanders, 10 Company Executive Officers, 20 Platoon Commanders, 20 Platoon Sergeants, and 60 Squad Leaders. Now Squad Leaders and Platoon Sergeants have less leeway in billet security. If they fuck up, I have a bunch of people just foaming at the mouth for the spot. I'm also not sure how you got from my questions that the MCJROTC switches Regimental Commanders twice a year.

Re: Promotion
An AFJROTC unit can be either a group or a wing. a group has less cadets than a wing and you automatically change titles depending on how many cadets you have enrolled. We're organized completely different from an actually air force wing in the fact that I don't *believe* any wings have groups within them. Don't quote me on that, however. The way my unit's organized is everyone in the program is part of our one group and then each class period is a flight, for a total of 7 flights. Then within the flights we have 5-7 elements, depending on how many kids are in that class. An element has anywhere from 3 to 7 individual cadets. At the group level we have a "top 4" which consists of the group commander, the big guy, the deputy group commander, who's in charge of the suggestion box and the flight commanders, the Squadron Operations Commander, who's in charge of all the OICs, and the Cadet Command Chief Master Sergeant, who's in charge of all the "enlisted" cadets. In my corps, to loose your job you either fuck up (doesn't even have to be that big), get suspended or arrested, or get lower than an 80 in ROTC for a semester grade. Or you can do new favorite fuck up of being accused of sexual harassment... lost 3 logistics officers and an instructor that way... Also, my whole "switch commanders twice a year thing" came from the fact that AFJROTCGeek got promoted mid-year, so I assumed that her unit switches mid-year.

Re: Promotion
Yeah we lost a good SNCO to a sexual harrassment claim....thing was she was his ex-girlfriend and she was quitting JROTC so she just did it out of spite, but they pretty much had to believe him because if females make an accusation, it has to be taken seriously or someone loses their job.

Re: Promotion
Lupin is exactly right Cole. Oh, I am a "he: not "she" lol... The only reason we change out Group Commanders is to give more people the ability to prove/improve on their leadership qualities. You are right Lupin, it sucks in the aspect of ever trying to get alot done, but overall, it works well. I've worked for 5/8 Group/Wing Commanders in my 4years of JROTC and its paid off-- i've learned alot and it helps me make decisions as GC now. Cole, yes, a Regimental Commander would be like a Wing Commander, so, a Wing would be quivalent to a Regiment, and a Group would be equivalent to a Battalion.... I heard of a Wing in Hawaii that has 450 cadets or something like that, I think I would go crazy and I just can't see how having that many cadets would prove to be useful to accomplish the goals of JROTC. My unit was a Wing for the past 3 years but we changed to a Group after we lost an instuctor and a few undesirables. But I like it better- its more manageable and its not so tough on the instructors. How does your unit do officer promotions Lupin? I had a promotion board meeting yesterday and I only denied 3 people of promotion- so Im doing pretty good lol...

Re: Promotion
Lol. Sry on the whole he/she thing. I don't know where I got the idea you were a girl... anyway, we don't have a promotion board. I hate the way our unit does promotions... The way we do it is every job has a certain rank that comes with it based on your year in the program. You get the rank that goes along with the job and they just fill up the jobs with the most qualified cadets starting with the 4th years and working their way down the 2nd years. All first years can be is element leader. Aka-they need a flight commander for Golf Flight and you have a study that period and are decent with your uniform and drill and stuff, you get the job and the rank that goes along with it. You don't have a job, you just get your permenant rank which is one stripe per year you've been in the program. After mid-terms everyone in the corps who's not on probation goes up one rank. Like first half for fourth year flight commander(me) was C/Capt, 2nd half is C/Maj. So now I'm a C/Maj. I don't like the way we do it and feel promotion requirements and boards would be a much better set up, but we tried to get it changed and it didn't work. Now it's gonna be up to the younger ones to fight for it when their time comes. Hopefully someone will win eventually...
