Pi Question Mark Non-Citizen Joining

I'm british born and joining the Air-Force soon, but it seems i am really limited on what i can do in the AF, mostly non-combat roles. Anyone had any experience of this, as i originally wanted to join a more combat oriantated job. Is it possible to get clearance to better jobs somehow.

Also i am worried about how this will affect my wife and 16month old daughter, anyone else have a family in the airforce and how it affects them.

I'm 25 and she is 28 so we're not really young.

Thanks

Once you get in and depending on what job you seek, yes you can get jobs that require a higher clearance.

I am 29 and my wife is older than me. We have 2 kids (5 & 7) and we are both in the military. Depending on what job you take in the military will depend on the training. First there will be the 6 weeks at Lackland (basic training), then depending on how long your technical school is, will depend on weteher or not the AF will move your family there or wait until you are finished and move them to your first duty station.

It is stressful sometimes but we manage. Sometimes the kids understand and sometimes they don't. We only tell them basics and only elaborate on questions that they ask. We keep their focus on what is going on at hand and mom or dad ....... not what is going on where we are at. Occasionally my daughter would see the NEWS and they would reference a car bomb in Iraq and she would ask if mom was near. I would tell her yes or no and only elaborate on that specific incident

Re: Non-Citizen Joining

If you go into the AF, your Security Manager will do the paperwork to get you on the way to getting the clearance if needed. Some jobs you can actually go through your tech school and on to your first base and await your clearance.
