AF Tech School (Keesler)
Hey guys,
Just graduated from AF BMT in December as a E-3 in the Air National Guard. I've had a two or so month lieu between BMT and my Tech Training. I leave for Keesler at the end of this month for the first 10 weeks of my training. My current MOS is SWAT(Satellite Wideband and Telemetry) and I'll be taking Electronic Principal at Keesler. I just wanted to know whats life like in Tech School; I'd especially like to hear from anyone whose attended Keesler and anyone in my MOS. Many Thanks -A1C Widvey |

Re: AF Tech School (Keesler)
I was there alomst two years ago. The only problem is that i was with the Combat Control teams there. You'll know who they are when you see em. Anyway, our rules were different then the other tech schoolers there. You earn phases the longer you are in tech school. 1 through 4 all with different levels of freedom. 1-you cant go off base, you have to be in uniform at all times, there are curfews, etc etc. Every phase gives you more and more freedom, at 6 months you get phase 4-no mandatory pt, uniform only during duty hours, you can go off base and stay the whole weekend downtown if you want (no curfew). Careful, these phases can be taken away even easier then they are received. i never got oof base much but i know there were a lot of casinos and keesler is only about 45 min to an hour from new orleans! It does get very hot and even more humid though.

Re: AF Tech School (Keesler)
Thanks for the information. My Tech School is 8 months long. I'll be spending 10 weeks at Kessler and the rest at an army base in my hometown. But in regards to Kessler and Tech School in general, what are the rules on cellphones? I know you cant carry them on you, but can you use them after duty hours in the 'privacy' of your dorm? And oh, are their such things as "weekends" in Tech School? lol

Re: AF Tech School (Keesler)
when i was there, you were allowed to use cell phones as long as it wasnt duty hours and you werent in uniform. haha-as far as your weekends go-i think phase one is 2 weeks or maybe a month long. during this phase there is not much of a weekend because you stay in uniform and you cant leave base. but after phase one, you can start goin downtown and eventually you wont have a curfew (as long as you make it to formation in the morning). so yes, there are weekends. i knew people that would go to new orleans on the weekend. leave friday night and come back sunday night. the general rule in tech school for going away on the weekends is you cant go further than a 4 hour drive. but that was 2 years ago and the military is always changing so my info might be outdated. oh yeah-it will help a lot if you are 21+. underage drinking is a big problem and the usaf is starting to put their foot down. anyway, i hope this helps and i wish you the best of luck
