Re: Roll Call.
I am a SSgt stationed at Lajes, or AB#4 as the Portuguese refer to THEIR base. I am from Ky. I love being a cop and I can't wait, I SAY AGAIN can't wait to leave.

Re: Roll Call.
I"m a police officer on the civilian side.. Always found it curious that AF SF are the only MP types who routinely refer to themselves as "cops". Not trying to be disrespectful, but civilian LE tends to be pretty opinionated about "cop" referring to municipal police officers, and MP work being a very different thing altogether. MP's I've met on the USMC and Army side of things always refer to themselves as "MP's". Is "cop" common in Air Force slang?

Re: Roll Call.
Yes it is common to call SF "Cops" we don’t have MP's like army were called Security Police "SP" but they did away with that when they merged the LE side with the Security Side.
I have some friends who went to 823rd from tech school. they are down range now. |

If its the latter, than I really couldn't care less. No we are not the same as regular civilian police officers, we are a seperate law enforcement agency. Regardless of what those opinionated cops think, military law enforcement duty is quite comparable to our civilian counterparts. The training available to some bases, the incidents encountered. While obviously a military law enforcement officer isn't going to come across the volume of serious events a civilian cop would, I think "cop" is quite fitting in the enviroment we are in. BTW, I don't call myself a "cop" to civilians. I say "Air Force MP" or "Air Force Cop" if they don't know what Security Forces is. Cop is used amongst the AIr Force environ. -Jorge |

Re: Roll Call.
I've always found it to be pretty split, some of my civilian LE friends, Actually most refer to me as an ex-cop. They draw no distinction between Military LE and Civilian. Even though I RARELY did LE missions.

Re: Roll Call.
As I mentioned in my original post, no disrespect was intended. Some was obviously taken, however, given the defensive nature of Braezin's reply. To borrow a quote from him, "I really couldn't care less." I asked a simple question and explained the background that led me to ask it. If you have a complex about that, let me know.

Re: Roll Call.
If by complex, you mean sick of people who have no idea what you do downplaying what you do, then yes. However, I'm sorry for getting defensive, it seemed like you were also questioning the legitimacy of us using the term "cop". Again, my apologies.
