Pi Question Mark USAF Security Forces

Can someone who is in the Air Forces Security Forces tell me what the Pro's and Con's are of being in it.

This information would greatly help me out with my decision to join.

Thanks!

Re: USAF Security Forces

A much asked question. Here's an old reply directing the person to an old reply.

I'll reiterate one part of the post though. "Good" depends on you. I can't tell you what's a "good" job. Every job in the world is "good" to someone. I can't imagine doing plumbing, the kind of shit (pun intended) you're going to get called to. However, I just met a guy who is doing plumbing in the Air Force. He loves it. Well, I don't know if he loves it, but he's really satisfied and knows he's getting good experience for a really good paying job in the civilian side. For him, plumbing is a "good" job.

Here is a good site for looking through the different Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSC) and reading about their descriptions and ASVAB requirements.

Re: USAF Security Forces

try reading it a bit closer. It speaks of some of the boring, trying aspects of the jobs...and some of the rewarding aspects. If you're looking for something else you need to be more specific.

Re: USAF Security Forces

Depends on what you mean. Our primary duty is security. Lots of guys come in thinking their going to get LE experience out of tech school, when in all actuallity that comes later in your career, sometimes 3-4 years into your enlistment. The rest of the time can be spent waving traffic in, guarding aircraft parking aprons, or sitting in a missile field.

Re: USAF Security Forces

as a current civilian police officer, w/prior usaf experience (firefighter), who has sat on past review boards at my PD: here is what i know-security forces is a plus. military service is a plus. letter of reccomendations from supervisors (no matter what u did) is a plus. a degree (even the ccaf degree) is a plus (even if its NOT leo related). acquiring schools/certs is a plus (even non-leo).

in short leo employers look for someone with an excellent work history and items that show maturity. no matter what u do, do a good job and work hard, u will get a job as a leo....
