. What I was wondering is...I really want to have the time to finish college and all, will I have the time? Can I pick SF on the Air Force Reserve? I also heard that the AF has a college...for free please tell me alittle about this AF college thnx ![]() |

Re: Ah...
school and SF dont mix well untell you have QC'ed and have your cdc's dune after that i dont see why you couldnt go to school on your off time SF is a hard job not because it is a complex job but because we work long hours and everyday so to speak. after tech school you get crammed with allot more info so learn your job first then more to school :-)

Re: Ah...
About the "Air Force College" it is called the Community College of the Air Force. It is an associates degree. A lot of times, the credits transfer over from the CCAF to other colleges so you pretty much have an associates degree for another college as well. The CCAF degree is pretty much worthless though. You just need to have it before you can reach a certain rank. It won't get you anywhere on the outside world though unless all, or most, of the credits transfer over.
Now security forces CDCs.... wow.. I bet they take a week to do. I mean, what is there to know? It is probably just a few pages. "Stand at a gate and check there IDs and wave them in like this (refer to figure 1-1). Eat a lot of donuts. When not at a gate, sit around at a desk or in a vehicle and don't do anything." Yep, thats pretty much it. I would love to see that 100 question test! |

Dinstaar: You're a child. You know nothing of what we do and what we have to know. You see the superficial aspects of our job that may seem, and alot of times are, mundane. There are aspects of the job you will never have the honor of seeing. Stuff we are prepared for that I pray to God you never have to see in action. Like saving your life. Think about that if when you're getting your ass beat at the NCO club, if someone breaks into your car, if you're in a convoy as an augmentee and its attacked, or even you have a flat on the side of the road and brother or sister of yours in a blue beret stops to help you out or give you a ride. -Jorge |

From the air to the ground the USAF has outstanding capabilities due to outstanding personell.
Let us not forget: In both Afghanistand and Iraq USAF special force types were some of the first on the ground and in harms way. -Mac |

Re: Ah...
Dinstaar two questions?
1. At what rank are you required to have your CCAF done so that you may progress. "You just need to have it before you can reach a certain rank." 2. Unless you have pulled gate guard or Security anywhere you need to check your mouth at the door. Anytime you are ready to stand at the so called EASY GATE SENTRY DUTY for 12 hours I'm sure your First Shirt can make that happen. So what exactly is your job? |

Man!! I soo understand what you are saying about Gate Sentry. I only had to stand guard duty in 4 hour shifts (4 on 8 off) for a couple weeks at a time and it was hard duty lol. It is very difficult to maintain any real vigilance day in and day out. That job requires a real true and deep self disciplen and focus. You do serve as the first line of defense for your installation, seeing as how the enemy is definately within our midst. -Mac |

Re: Ah...
I will admit that when I was new to the AF that I had the chip on my shoulder that no job was better than mine. NONE. I was a 20 yr old badass who was in a job that only a few can do.
Well the reality started to set in and I realized that EVERY job is important. Think about it. In order for me to perform my job I need radios, a vehicle, equipment, and most importantly aircraft. Well if the radio folks do not repair the radios that I break and I don't HELP the vehicle guy fix my truck and the aircraft maintenance does not maintain the aircraft, then I am screwed. Add in the bomb builders, the HAZMART guys (where I get my batteries for my radios) and intel, it is starting to become a big puzzle. Those are some pretty important jobs. What about the so called crappy ones that people feverishly bitch about. Fianance, Trans, SF, Supply, and Services. Well if Trans doesn't take the pilots to their aircraft or move troops around the base you are screwed. When was the last time you went to an established deployed location and had no MWR tent? Or how about when you need that new set of gloves because you failed to pack them and a supply person in your AOR hooked you up? Who is gonna make sure the bad guy is not breaking through the fence harming you or aircraft. SF does and if they do damage the aircraft then the maintainers just had a longer day. And Fianance, how are you gonna get supplies for your shop or that travel voucher paid if they are not doing their job? Yes people screw up in their jobs. Some cops are jerks, some are cool. Some people at fianance don't have a clue (and they are working around money of all things) but some are wizzes. If you have a problem get a name. Talk to that person about your situation. If it is not resolved then go UP your chain. If that doesn't work then come in here, post your problem and I am 110% sure that somebody can assit you. If you were joking then say it. Some people take these forums REAL seriously, along with the duties that they have sworn to do and perform on a daily basis. GOOD LUCK! |

Amen rusty.
In an organization as big as our Armed Services, which ever service it may be, each and every job exists because it is necessary. No one piece can be removed without undermining the entire process. -Mac |

Above everything else, remember, we are Brothers-in-Arms. Sure rivalry is good. And you should have confidence. But, if you downplay someone, expect to get your ass kicked, nevermind the rules issue. You will get verbally assinated.
