Re: what fighter planes do the marine corps fly
F/A-18 Super Hornet is the only fighter that the Corps flies.
Marine Corps pilots also fly the AV-8B Harrier, but it is a ground attack jet, not a fighter. |

Re: what fighter planes do the marine corps fly
Im guessing you asked this because you want to be a pilot, (if im wrong sorry), I just thought that i would point out that the Marine Corps. Is the only branch that has a guaranteed pilot MOS, all the other branches its a toss up, but if you want to fly the baddest fucking plane in the world right now id go Chairforce (sorry marines) and try to get in the A-10 Warthog, if anyone disagrees with me you havnt seen this bad boy in combat, gave me a hardon just watching it. well thats my two cents.

Re: what fighter planes do the marine corps fly
The A-10 is a great plane, and I loved having them available for support, but for a young person just looking at joining the service you might want to keep in mind that these things might not be in the inventory much longer.

Re: what fighter planes do the marine corps fly
Yeah the F-35 is gonna replace like everything.
That A-10 is pretty fuckin hard core, love that big ass cannon on the front. I hear that when you shoot it the plane slows down to near stall speed, dunno if thats true or not, but i have heard it from more than one place. -Flash |

Re: what fighter planes do the marine corps fly
A-10 is great as long as a MiG or Sukoi doesn't jump you, and if you don't mind being able to walk out of the combat zone faster than it will fly you out.

Re: what fighter planes do the marine corps fly
Two things. I work with these guys (Hawg Drivers) day in and day out and posed the question about stalling the aircraft while shooting the GAU-8. Not true. They barrel would melt providing they are within their proper parimeters during their run-in.
As far as a Mig or Sukoi getting ahold of them, I will place my money on an A-10 any day. It may be slow but it can cut on a dime and loiter a hell of a long time. The 75th (Pope) took a challenge from the 336th (Seymour "C's") doing 4 v 4 in Echo MOA and the Hawgs sent them back to re-write their air to air chacteristics. |

Re: what fighter planes do the marine corps fly
"A-10's don't fly with fighter escorts (or in the area) because of their speed?"
Hawgs do fly escort missions. Theyare also a good recce aircraft. If I have a A-10 on station during a JRTC I will have them get down in the "Weeds" and stir up the OPFOR. By the time they get their SAM ready, the A-10's have already neutralized them. The one aircraft that I really want to work with as far as deploying munitions is the BUFF or BONE |
