Wanting an 11B Option 4 contract and to be with an airborne division
Alrighty.
So after about a year of my fighting to get a BS criminal charge dropped, I'm finally ready to get to MEPS and start my career in the United States Army. In my time waiting I did loads of research and have found that many say even if you get airborne in contract and pass jump school, you very well might not be able to do anything with it, meaning put with a regular infantry division instead of an airborne one. This is somewhat disgruntling to me as I'm wanting to be an Airborne Infantryman. So is it at all possible to get it in contract that you will be stationed with an airborne division? Or some way to make sure that this is what I get? Also, while I'm here I might as well ask, in my research I also found people saying that there is no such thing as an 11b contract, but only 11x. I really only have an interest in 11b and talked to my recruiter and he said, "No, you can get 11b or whatever you want in your contract". Well I read a lot of people saying there is only an 11x contract, so I'm curious if he's just yankin' my chain, so to speak. So is a 11b Option 4 contract possible? With getting to an airborne division? Also, how long after OSUT at Benning would it take to start Jump School? Thanks for the great forums, guys. And thanks for reading my somewhat lengthy reply. |

You can go 11b and you can get a contract to go 11x but it's all going to depend on your performance. You can choose 11b as your MOS and then if you you do well they will work with you to go airborne... But in the end it's a promise and up to if you make the cut or not...

I know when I joined the Army a year ago, I tried to join as an Infantrymen. I was reserved a slot as 11x. My recruiter said this was the only way to join the Army right now as an Infantrymen. I eventually chose 13B because it allowed me to ship to Basic Training in 1 month as apposed to 5 months as 11x. I'm doing the role of a 11b right now in southern Iraq. Anyways, as long as you get Airborne in your contract your good. But if your recruiter is giving you the "well if you work hard enough you'll get it" he is lying to you. There is no, and I mean no, guarantee that you will be put in an Airborne unit. When you graduate from Airborne school you will be place in a division by the needs of the Army. Hopefully, you will be placed in a great unit. I'm currently in the 1st Calvary Division, 3HBCT. I'm not happy with it, but I'm learning to deal with it. When I graduated from 13BOOMER school in Fort Sill, they had a list of where everyone was going. They called off your name and your duty station. It was completing RANDOM! Hope this was some help from a junior enlisted member |

All Infantry recruits are now 11X, it's been that way for almost 10 years now. You'll get your designator after graduation from OSUT. Your ASVAB scores will determine whether you will become a Bravo or Charlie. Generally if you're going to be a Charlie you'll be separated into a mortar platoon at the start of basic training.
Options aside it's the same for everyone. The only differences will be what you secure through negotiating for in your contract for example your duty station, length of first term, bonus, schools, etc. -Deuce |
