For combat vehicles, Ceradyne Inc. of California offers ceramic tile and complete armor systems. The company is preparing to open a plant in Wixom to offer a prototype for the Army's Warren-based Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. Its ceramic products -- utilizing boron carbide, silicon carbide and titanium diboride --are lighter than steel armor products, making it easier for speed in transport and deployment.
