Navy ITs?
Hello everyone!
My name is Steve and I have enlisted in the USN in the beginning of January, however I don't ship off to basic until Auguest 23rd. I was hoping to speak to someone currently invovled in the IT program or anyone who has retired or even just knowledgable about the IT field. I'm looking to do anything possible to give myself an advantage in A-school. Any information and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Steve |

First of all, when you are in class don't try to be the "smart guy." Some good books to read up on would be: books on Cisco, Newtorking, Sys admin, Windows, anything else related to Info Systems. Also Network Security would help you in the long run.

Alright, I will pick up some books on those. What about as far as software goes? What would give me some hands-on understanding?
Also, how is the "smart guy" perceived in class? Good thing for the instructors, but not such a good thing from your peers? |

Each class is different. Just learn all that you can, and don't be a show off. You never know if you're wrong or if the instructor gets pissed because hyou are doing so.
If you're the smart guy, help the others. Not overtly to be embarassing, but help out your shipmates. -Rich |
