Wanting to Join
I have a couple questions about joining, well sort of.
I was thinking of either becoming an enlisted Marine or an Officer of Marines. Just recently, there was a fair near where I live. A couple of friends and I went there. We were there from 11 am to about 11pm. I was going to stay the night at a friend's house but, I forgot to check in when I got in town, to let my Dad know I hadn't been drinking, I'm ok, and that in fact I am going to stay at my friend's. Since I failed to do that, he got worried and filed a missing person's report the next morning. I went home in the morning, probably an hour or so after he called up the local PD and found out about my Dad calling the police and all that. They came over, talked to my Dad, then me. The gave me a sobriety test which made me feel crappy, like a POS drugee, which I'm not, and ofcourse they were looking and treatin' me like I was. I wouldn't blame 'em though, but it sucked because I want to become a COP when I serve my time in the Corps. To get on track, after they gave me the little test, they asked me if I would take a piss test and all that, I said yes, I hadn't been drinking or anything. But it got cleared up when my friend's Mom called and backed my story up. With all that said, do you think the police wrote a report and stuck it in my file? If so, what would that do to my chances of gettin' the Corps. My file is spotless, I don't even have one. I get 3.5's, 3.8's, I stay out of trouble, I just screwed up, crappy day I guess. All that doesn't mean a darn thing I know, and I do deserve what I get, I know that too, so lay on the reams. I'm not seeking sympathy, just wondering if you think they wrote me up and if so what that would do to me. |

Re: Wanting to Join
ahh, from what i can tell, your a teenager who forgot to call home and your dad freaked out called the cops for some reason(maybe a little over the top). and then for some reason the cops gave you a sobriety test and a urine test, which begs the question why...if the call was for a missing person who was allready found. i'm sorry but what your saying sounds ridiculous. anyways, you didnt get arrested or written up or convicted of anything. so your fine dont worry about it. may some else with a little more experience then i can confirm this, but you have nothing to worry about. i dont think they corps will deny you for not calling your dad one night. dont worry about it, the cops in your town must be bored.

Re: Wanting to Join
like mac324 said, if you didnt have to pay a fine, or didnt go to jail, no charges were filed. How old are you anyway? That whole sobriety test and piss test doesnt make any sense to me at all, and I worked in a jail for a year. if you were at your house, you could not have been arrested for any alcohol charge. oh well. it sounds to me like you record is still nonexistant. and even with that, a runaway is just a ticket for juveniles too, its nothing big at all, just like a traffic ticket. hope that helped some. send me a PM if you need anything else I might be able to help with! best of luck to you!

Re: Wanting to Join
Hey relax, if you want to join the Corps and you haven't gone to jail, you can still probably join. There are some times when you can get waivers for things, so if it goes on your record you can get a waiver. Just talk to the recruiter and he will tell you if you can join or not. 1-800-MARINES or www.Marines.com to contact your local recruiter.

Just keep your nose clean and keep up the studies and you'll be right as rain.
The studies are important both for USMC and after. Dont slack up. -Mac |

Re: Wanting to Join
No problems there man.
The Marines let me in and i was a devil of a child. YOu only have to get a waiver after 3 MUI/MIP(Minor under the influence/Minor in possession of alcohol) charges. I only had one, my buddy who is at Recruit training as we speak had 2. I had been arrested a few times also, nothing serious, just stupid kid crap. One Misdomeanor of destruction of property when my friends and i managed to break a fan during a snowball fight. Not a problem. At MEPS they will ask you about your past history, just be honest. I brought all my court papers so i could have my dates exactly right. Also, report your traffic offenses too, i had a couple of those as well. |

Re: Wanting to Join
The only thing that you should worry about when going to MEPS is how boring that day is going to be. I hated every time I was there. Even when I had to report in for recruiters' assistance.
