Initial Strength Test Requirements
Hey, I was wondering if this book I'm reading has the right requirements for the Marine Corps IST.
It says for Males you need to be able to do: 2 Pull Ups 35 Situps in 2 minutes 1.5 Mile Run in 13 Minutes :30 Seconds Is this correct or has it changed because I seem to remember someone saying you had to be able to do 3 Miles in 27 Minutes or something. Can someone please explain this to me so I can start training to get a good IST score? -Jugganaut Joe |

Re: Initial Strength Test Requirements
I beleive that the three mile is not a IST requirement, but is part of the test you will take at the end of basic. I beleive that your information is correct that you posted. I don't know for sure as I am in the army, you will want to get a better answer from a marine who will know exactly what they are looking for.

ArchAngel:
Those would be the MINIMUM allowable. As you workout for Boot Camp, do not get involved with just meeting the mins. -Mac |

Re: Initial Strength Test Requirements
Roger that
![]() If you can pump out 10 pullups from dead hang, do 60+ good situps in the time limit and run the 1.5 in under 20 mins you would be in a good starting possition for Boot Camp. The less you have to play catch up on the physical fitness training the better. -Mac |

Re: Initial Strength Test Requirements
1.5 mile under 20 minutes? Fuck no! Under 13 minutes is minimum. Because then the 3 miles would be 40 minutes, and if you run 3 miles in 40 minutes don't even think about getting in my Corps. And the crunches are the easiest thing to do. If you can't do it you need to work on that. It's the easiest points you can get.
