military's policy on medical history? adderall, ritalin

I have a friend (not me, promise) who was prescribed medication for his ADD throughout high school. I don't know if It was Ritalin or Adderall. Anyway, I thought this was prohibited in the military? He's serving in the USMC now, but when I talked to a USMC recruiter, he asked me a lot of questions reguarding my medical history, specifically if I had ever been prescribed Adderall.

So did my friend have to lie about his medical history or did the military overlook it to meet a quota?

Well I'm not sure on the official policy, just to let you know, but I do know when I enlisted, that if you did not tell them, they couldn't find out. What that means is that when you fill out a certain part of your paperwork, they ask you if you have seen any doctors, if you have a family doctor, if you have ever been prescribed drugs, etc. Because of some privacy act, they are unable to find out, I believe. However, if you tell them your doctor's name, location, phone number etc. they can then call that doctor and request your information. Remember I am just a wannabe, so take that for what its worth.

If he did get into the service by withholding relevant information, it can still come back to bite him.

If it was a disqualifier and it's found out then he can still be discharged.
