2nd language
Now I understand that the military will give you a bonus for knowing a second language. Will they give you more if you know a third or does it stop after 2. Also, what do they use to test you for that? How involved is the testing and how close to fluent do you have to be?

Re: 2nd language
First off, don't think that High School French, German, or Spanish will suffice.

Re: 2nd language
If you're only looking for the bonus then you might wanna be at least at the "near native fluency" level. If you're looking to be useful then all the language you can cram into your bhg will help. If you want a job in intel in a language related field, learn all you can about learning languages, because if you test well on the language aptitutde sections, you might end up in one of the worlds best language school up in Monterey (sp?) CA.

Re: 2nd language
Grimmy is right on target. Korean will be a language that will serve you well in the service, regardless of your MOS.
If you demonstrate aptitude, but not necessarily a high level of proficiency, you may well find yourself with orders to DLI (Defense Language Institute) at Monterey sometime during your first enlistment. The higher you score, the better your chances of assignment there. And Korean is one of the languages that they will have a need for over the next 10 years. Good luck. |
