Curious Question From a Future Servicewoman. (Hopefully)
Hey everybody, i'm new to the site, and i was forwarded here from a friend.
I have a question for anyone who might be able to answer it. I know the gov't goes pretty in depth in its exams to sign up and go to basic, but my main concern is i have done ecstacy a few times and i dont know if they will find out... i'm afraid that if they do i will not be able to join... does anybody know if they will know other than me just telling them? any and all responses are greatly appreciated! thank you much!! You really do need to be honest and upfront with your recruiter. Dont hide anything. If you do, it will eventually come back to bite you in the arse and then you'll have breach of honor issues to deal with as well.

I really dont know if it would disqualify you. But, if you do lie and you are found out, you'd be in even deeper kimchee.
I understand your angst and worry. I was pretty much king of the screwups when I was a kid (didnt change a whole lot as I "grew up" either ). I do hope it works out for you, but you do need to be honest and upfront.-Mac |

There were a lot of "heads" that joined back in the 80's . The policy then was "Have you ever experimented with illegal controlled substances and if so how many times in the last year?" I knew one guy that said yes and 365 times. he was a Gunny when he related this story to me. If the Corps's policy has not changed, you can admit to drug use ONE TIME. After that you will go up for Court Martial.
I don't think you have a thing to worry about. Like Grimmy said, Be honest and tell the truth. It is in your past. |

You need to be straight up honest with them. What by chance if you do tell them no and the person that is interviewing you has read this thread? If you are honest you will have nothing to hide in the future when you try to get a security clearence. As said before if you are not honest, it will come back to bite you in the butt. Integrity is everything. Admit to your mistakes and take the consequences of your actions. That will display true character. If you hide this and it comes out later you will not be trusted in the future, quite possible when you need to be trusted.

When i was filling out all my paperwork on the Drug policies the recruiter does ask "at anytime in the past year have you experimented /used illegal drugs and if so how many times" and to the best of my knowledge on this issue the Past is in the Past but like everyone said Honesty is the best policy, when you go to meps they waive a piece of paper at you like 50 times stating that if you arent honest and they find out your lying its a 10,000 $ fine and up to 10 yrs in jail or some bs like that

Drug use beyond a little marijuana may require a waiver, but it should be do-able. As stated above, honesty is the best policy.
