Re: my friend...
He's not legally obligated to anything until he reports to MEPS and officially swears in on his shipout date. All he has to do is tell the recruiter he has changed his mind. Whatever bull the recruiter tries to tell him after that isn't true. It won't adversly effect him in any way and they can't force him to go.
I strongly encourage him to not go as a matter of fact. If he doesn't want to be a soldier, we don't want him. If you need anymore help send a PM my way and I'll give you whatever advice you may need. -JR |

Re: my friend...
It's natural to change your mind and have second thoughts after making a big decision. The key is to make an informed decision - do your reseach and soul searching first, then decide. That way, when those doubts come you can go back to the reasons why you decided to join in the first place.
That's part of the trouble -- it requires making an adult decision. Some 18 & 19 year olds can do that, and some can't. Hell, some still can't when they're 24 or 25... make that 40 or 45 for some folks... The difference is that adults are (or should be) held accountable for their decisions. |

Re: my friend...
What you could have done...
Call your buddy up and tell him that you heard it on good authority that for pulling out of his contract like this... He has to go to the recruiters office where he'll be met by some government suits who will "escort" him to a specific medical facility where a non removable tattoo will be inked into both his chest and back. This tattoo will only be viewable by Doctors and it lets them know that he (your buddy) backed out of a military contract and they (the Doctors) do not have to treat him if they dont want to. or something like that. Even better!! you call him up and tell him that You called his recruiter for him. You let his recruiter know what was up and the recruiter ordered to "talk your buddy into comming down to the station...tell him it's just to sign a few papers and then he's free and clear..' but what's really gonna happen is that he's gonna be arrested, hand cuffed and transported immediatly to the stockade ![]() It's sad when ya gotta pass up a really good chance to mess with your buddy's head for awhile. -Mac |

Re: my friend...
I wonder what component his friend has enlisted in...seems like AD , but he didn't make any reference. If he's AD, then the above advice is sound.....and dead on. Interestingly enough, if he enlisted in the Army National Guard, things work a bit differently, as soon as he is sworn in , he's going to have a more difficult time getting out of it, not impossile, just difficult.
