Operation S.M.A.R.T.
Quick question: My little brother has decided on joining the Army (Cav Scout) a buddy of his recomended him, meaning his buddy gets the promotion to E-2 and a bonus, but the recruiter told my brother his buddy would miss out on this if my brother didn't go to MEPS and finalize his contract within 7 days of taking the ASVAB,I thought this sounded a bit fishy, can anyone enlighten me about this program?

Re: Operation S.M.A.R.T.
I think this may be a line. I've researched the S.M.A.R.T program, and can not find anywhere in the policies which specify a referral must enlist within 7 days. Here is a link to the programs policies, and with some navigating you can get more info on the program itself. The only way his buddy can miss out on the bonus is if the referral (your brother) does not enlist, is not qualified to enlist, or enlists but does not complete IET. (BCT/AIT)

Re: Operation S.M.A.R.T.
I just checked with our recruiters here at Drum and the info you were given about having to enlist within seven days is incorrect.
This is a pressure tool that only a BAD recruiter would use. The only thing for the referral that is specified is that your brother needs to finish Basic and AIT before any bonus is paid out to the referring party. -speedy |

Re: Operation S.M.A.R.T.
Though it is important to realize that those changes to BCT Guy is referring to have currently been llimited to FLW, and then only to 3rd Training Bde, whose CO, Col. Edward B. Daly instituted these changes upon taking command. OSUT training for infantry, armor, artillery etc. has not changed.
