Going back on my on terms
After talking to a prior service recruiter about the IRR call up i found out that since I'm in the sweet spot as far as time in the IRR and my MOS I'm more than likely going to get a letter telling me to report. I signed the contract and know my obligations, but I would rather go in on my own terms than have to be called up. So pretty soon I think Im going to join a reserve unit.

Smart choice, I don't know how the USMC is doing it but I know the Army is calling up the IRR ALOT. I've had several freinds get called up on IRR within months of ETS but they had already joined the reserve/guard so they were golden.

That's a plus, if you have to go at least you can "shop around" some and look for a good crew or line yourself up for a slot that wont necessarily be a hard grind.

Good call, 03. The IRR is a gamble these days. At least if you join a unit you can get to know the dudes you may or may not eventually deploy with, and won't get dumped downrange with a bunch of strangers. Good luck! Let us know who you end up with.
