Pt
Hey, well I see no ones got any info on LRS. but thats all good. Right now im wondering if anyone can help me with my pt, which i know i will NEED to be in top shape for RIP. the problem im having is my push ups. My run and sit ups are fine, but my push ups absolutely suck. Ive been doing push ups daily but am not seeing much of an improvment. There so low right now that between now and RIP i need at least double my push ups. If theres any work outs that anyone knows about that can get my push ups increased quickly id apreciate hearing about them. Thanks everyone.

Re: Pt
I've always been weak on the push-ups my own self.
Bench press, triceps extensions help target the specific muscles in the arms. When ever I've tried to work up my push-ups, I've had success starting in an incline, like leaning against a counter top or desk and doing as many groups of 20 reps that I can and lowering the incline as I am able to quickly do 100 uninterrupted reps. I keep doing that until I am at floor level in standard push-up position. Another "program" I've tried and had some success with is to do 1 push-up, jump back up onto my feet, turn 180 and drop back into push-up position and do 2, then 3 then 4 then 5 etc until I've done at least 10, then work back down to 1. Wish I had better to offer. -Mac |

Re: Pt
Elevate your feet on a bench or something and knock 'em out until you think you can't do one more. Then do 10 more for The Great Ranger God in the sky. You need to learn to push your body further than you think possible. The inability to accomplish a physical goal is all in your head. Confront that little voice in the back of your head that says shit like, "it's too hard, I can't do anymore, let's take a break, etc." Tell that demon to shut the fuck up. If you're doing push-ups on a regular basis but are not seeing any improvement it's because you're quitting.

Re: Pt
Agreed with the above. The best way to improve your pushups is to do more pushups. One method we used at sea when we were bored was to deal each other a hand of cards (7 cards).. Aces are worth 15, face cards 10, everything else was worth its number.. Deal yourself a hand a couple times a day, add em up, and do that many.
I suggest working on form as well. Get ahold of pushup grips or dumbells, and do pushups with your hands gripping them. It gets you off the deck by a few inches, and allows you to go deeper with each repetition. You may want to supplement your pushup routine with weight training every couple days.. I'd recommend the bench press, as it is the weight exercise that most closely replicates the pushup. If you train diligently for a few weeks, there's no reason why you can't smoke the pushup portion of the APFT. Work at it, and like Covert said-ignore your inner sissy that tells you to quit. Make sure you stretch your chest and arms a lot and allow yourself plenty of rest. Good luck. |
