Blue to Green from the Navy
How's it going. I did a search on here and didn't find anything that exactly helped me since I've heard conflicting answers from people and I was hoping someone on here can help me out.
I joined the Navy about 5 months ago. I chose the Navy for the new Riverine Squadrons and I chose MA as my path to those squads. My A-School was changed from San Antonio to Damneck VA and lets just say Damneck's ways of doing things was less than orthodox and at the end we did not get choice of orders no matter what our GPA was and our orders were chosen for us. Point being I couldn't pick orders to a Squadron. So I'm left with 2 choices wait 2 years at my current command and "maybe" get lucky enough to get orders to the Riverines or go Blue to Green. That maybe... is looking less and less appealing to me and although other units like Mobile Security and Coastal Warfare seem pretty cool it's not what I want. The Riverines are a direct combat unit and that is what I want to be a part of (I know... I chose a weird branch for that). Anyways, when I come to my 15 month window for orders if I'm not given the option for Riverines, I want to go into the Army for 11B. I've heard everything from I can go Blue to Green right now (which if I can, I would in a heart beat), to I can do it at the 15 month window, to having to wait 6 months until the end of my enlistment. Can anyone clear this up for me? I spoke to one Army recruiter that tried to get me an entry level seperation but after researching it further it was not the samething as going Blue to Green, he was basically trying to get me seperated to then enlist into the Army through the regular process. I should have probably joined the Army in the first place but those damn river boats looked like a hell of a good time and I went for it. Anyways....any info and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! |

I don't have any expertise in that field but I can look around and try to dig something up. In the meantime hopefully one of our other members can help you out.

Re: Blue to Green from the Navy
Upon further inspection, it seems that you can go Blue to Green at this point and to do so you need to start the process with a completed DD FORM 368 dated Nov 94.
After looking up the form on Pure Edge it looks like you'll need to discuss it with your commander and let him know your intentions so I would recommend you not burn any bridges with your chain just yet. I gathered all this from just a few minutes of digging though so hopefully someone else can help out with some on par information. -JR |

Re: Blue to Green from the Navy
I went from blue to green, but my motivation was attaining a direct commisssion. Hence, my chain of command was understanding in letting me go... What I would do is this - your going to need to run a conditional release up the chain of command. In order to do this, go see an Army recruiter - they will supply you with the paperwork that is necessary. Get multiple copies of this document - they tend to get lost... Submit it and be prepared to provide a good explanation of "why" if needed.
The only question I have is, have you considered BUD/S? I ask this only because 11B is no cake walk physically... |
