New and need some advice Thanks
Hello My name is Dan . I'm 31 years old and interested in going into the Military. I'm I too old for service . I have read that the Army will take people up to age 42 . Is this true . The only thing that my restric me is I had hernia surgery in 2003 due to a construction accident that I never took care of and got worst . My father was in the Military and my grandfather in WWII . I know it may be too late for me but it was young and dumb and didn't know where to turn when i was just out of high school . Now I'm more mature and ready to serve is it too late for me ? I'm in pretty good shape with no probelms with the hernia as I'm a plumber and lift heavy object all the time with no probelm . I would appreciate any help people could give me thanks the F.N.G.

Your age is not a factor. Family/financial considerations might be - I don't know your situation. You have a couple options with the health thing - you can run it by a recruiter - he'll probably tell you to just not mention it. Or you can go through MEPS - you'll probably have to retake the asvab anyway, and if they clear you then you should be good to go.

Age is no issue, prior injury is no issue as long as it has healed correctly. The only issue I have is it appears you are choosing the Army only because they will allow you in due to age... I admire your sense of wanting to serve, but you are doing yourself and the Army a disservice if you are "settling" on the Army because of age.
A buddy of mine [who is armor as well and is an O-3 (we were both prior enlisted and later put through OCS), but is Guard] and I had this discussion the other day... He has seen it a lot in the Guard, maybe its due to the recruiting frenzy we have going on - but there has been an influx of new recruits that loose their zeal and walk while in pre-phase (rfp). Pre-phase is when you will drill with other recruits and their are NCO's that will get you in shape and squared away before you ship to boot camp. It's my opinion, and take it at face value - that this is due to recruits "settling" on the Army. When they are introduced to both the physical and mental aspects of the job they realize that couch with a cold beer watching Sunday football wasn't to bad after all... Here's the kicker - ITS OK to think that - it saves you and the Army money and man hours. If you want the Army bad enough - go down to the recruiter and be honest about your health and any other concerns, they will advise you and believe me, if there is a way to get you in - they will do it! |
