UK citizen joining the US Army
Good to be here.
So as my title states, I am a UK citizen, but I have lived in the USA for several years now. Family reasons / college. I have my green card and am fully entitled legally to join the military here. I went along to the recruiting place on Monday afternoon and they were totally cool about me being from the UK. They want me to join and I think I am going to. I really do wish to join. I suppose my question is this, would most people in the Army be cool with a Uk citizen being in " their " military?. I know we are allies and such, but some have said, that some may have problems, while ssome may respect me for wanting to fight for this country. I am rather nervous about this. Most of my American side of the family are in the Marines and I have a close relative who retired not long ago as a LT.COL in the US Army. He said, there should be no problems. Are they saying this so I join?. I love America and I want to fight for the freedoms we have in the western world. I was going to join the British Army before we relocated to America. Any ideas on my situation. They are talking about me maybe going to boot camp in January. Thanks |

Re: UK citizen joining the US Army
Welcome to the Forums, and thank you for your desire to serve.
Every American respects the fact that you want to fight for this country. I believe anything you may have heard about US and UK service members not getting along stems from the same "friendly rivalry" that exists among the various branches of the military. We have many US service members from dozens of countries serving with honor and distinction. From everything I've seen and read they are very quickly integrated into the US military community as family. Best of luck to you. -Pat |
