68w Option 40
Good Evening,
I am going to contract in a few days and want to be a combat medic for the Rangers. Aside from the honor of serving with the 75th my main attraction to option 40 was the ability to go to the Special Operations Combat Medical Course. I was talking to my recruiter today and he told me there are no option 40 contracts for my career field, at all. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so is there anyway to go to Special Operations Combat Medical course without going to RASP (the new RIP program) and being contracted for Ranger accession? |

Just a bump to let you know this is not being ignored. At this time, traffic is very light on this forum. I do not know if anyone is around that knows the answer to your question.
Best wishes to you in your service of choice. -Mac |

Re: 68w Option 40
If there isn't a way to Option 40 as a medic, there are still ways to get where you want to go. SOCMC generally takes students from Ranger, SF, SEAL, and Pararescue units-with the occasional cat or dog thrown in from somewhere else. Just because the recruiter can't guarantee you on contract a chance to go the Ranger route doesn't mean you can't do it the old-fashioned way - excel at every stage of your training and volunteer. You should be able to get an airborne contract, which will at least get you part of the way down the road. In the airborne community there are avenues to volunteer to try out for the Ranger Regt. Good luck.

Re: 68w Option 40
The fastest way to get into a Ranger bat or Special Forces is to get Airborne. If you stay at the top of your class through your training, you will probably get looked at while you are going through Airborne School. People have been offered a chance at RIP and SF qualification course right out of Airborne School. The key is to be the best throughout your training and then the opportunities will open up.
