Current standard issue rifle

I am enlisting into EOD and am curious as whether or not EOD personnel are issued standard M16's or M4's, or any variation of. Thanks to anyone for the info. I posted this in the EOD forum as well but figured more people would view this forum.

Re: Current standard issue rifle

OK, I'm a bit of a stickler about certain tnings, and somewhat an asshole. Neither the M-16 or the M-14 are rifles. They are both carbines. The barrel length is too short. That said, the AR-14 waswas a rifle...by about an inch

Re: Current standard issue rifle

Sir.
If the M-14 you refer to was the 7.62 issued to the USMC in the 60's it was indeed a "rifle" and referred to as such by the Marine Corps as was the M-16. I have never heard of an AR-14.

Re: Current standard issue rifle

Karl - You'll have to excuse me for being a stickler (you might even say asshole), but to qualify as a rifle a weapon must have a barrel length of 20 inches or better (muzzle to breech, I believe). No "standard issue" weapon since the Garrand has had that length. The rest are carbines.
