M-1 helmet question

Hopefully, I am posting in the right spot.

Anyway, can anyone tell me what the white stripe on this M-1 helmet signifies...if anything.

Re: M-1 helmet question

It appears to be reflective tape. If so, it was probaly used in a training unit, because in combat you don't want anything that visible,

Re: M-1 helmet question

That model helmet dates from WW2 up to the early 80's. During WW2, most Army helmets were painted to reflect rank and/or unit. A horizontal white bar on the back of the helmet was for NCOs and a vertical bar was for commissioned officers. The bars were a little smaller than what your picture is showing. My best guess is that your helmet was either for training, or from a different branch of service. I'm not sure what Navy and Marines may have had painted on their helmets at that time.
