Handguns in Iraq

Does anyone know what the rules for taking handguns to Iraq is? I may be getting deployed, and I want to know if I can take my own or if I have to use one from my unit.

I would definately say that this would be an unauthorized move on your part...sure there are a ton of legalities with this thought. I understand your point believe me.

enlisted also carries handguns e-6 and above usually. i think he was asking if he could bring his own...which isn't going to happen. i wanted to bring mine too so dont feel bad.

almost allsnipers and medics got handguns.
squad leaders+teamleaders ,co,xo,1sg, etc got em

No not 0-5's and above. Any officer in the field is permited to carry a hand gun. Now as far as enlisted, you usually have to have a certain MOS or be in a Specialized unit ( Special Forces, Ect.) Now as far as you brining you own, i wouldnt recomend it.

I am in a SF unit and we can bring our own, but getting back from Iraq is the hard part.

MP's carry hand guns as well, when my unit went they were told not to bring their own. Although many purchased them when they went over there (not in regs.) They could not bring them back though they would have gotten into a hell of a lot of trouble if they were caught bringing one back or an extra side arm on them.
