13M going to Korea....

Well, as of 26 Feb. I leave for Camp Casey, Korea for my first Duty Station. Just finished my AIT for the M270A1 MLRS. Any advice on how to keep the wife calm while I'm away for a year? She's heard all sorts of horror stories from a coworker who has a son stationed there. One quick question too, can I bring my own firearms there? Training was pretty fast paced so I never got to bring it up to my instructors.


Who else, if anyone is stationed there?

To answer the firearms question, NO. Leave them stateside. Where in Korea are you going? Going to CDC or TDC. If you go to TDC you have to go downtown and see the "Seargeant Major"

As far as the stories .... take them with a grain of salt. Remember in school when the teacher would tell one student a secret and by the time it got to the last person it was totally different from what it started as, well the same goes for this situation.

Don't be a dorm rat that goes to work and hibernates in his room each night except to go out on the weekends. I had the luxuary of having a supervisor that was married to a Korean and we went everywhere. Get out and see the sights!

Yep, I'm at Camp Casey right now, again. I spent my first 7 months there, then 2 at Camp Hovey, now I'm with yet another unit and back at Casey. First off, do not bring any weapons with you, to include knives over 6" long. Being in Area 1 in Korea is different than any stateside duty station. I'll be happy to fill you in if you want to PM me. There is a pretty high degree of OPSEC here. It kinda surprises me that you'd be coming here though. We don't get many MLRS guys here. Drop me a message in the next couple of days. After this weekend I'll be out of contact for awhile again.
