Interested in infantry and Cav Scout

Anyone have any opinions on either of these, which is the most dangerous and/or rewarding. Also are you away from home a lot with these posts?

If you were to go into the infantry and armor forums there are threads that deal with each. I have served in both and loved the Infantry. They both are gone quite a bit.

Sorry, my head is stuffy and I am a bit dizzy so I am a bit out of it right now and forgot what forum I was under. I spend 10 years as a cav scout. The best part was pulling border duty in Germany. You will have a lot more fun in the infantry. They are afforded many more schools than you would get as a scout. In a way they work beside each other and both can do each others jobs. I would still say go Infantry, you will be able to do a lot more that way.

I have been an infantryman for 9 yrs of active service, and while my MOS is still 11B I am currently in a staff job. While on the line, I was frequently in the field or on deployment. What Turtledrive says about Cav Scouts working with Infantry is true...more so now as the UA concept has Cav Scouts assigned to units that they have not traditionally been assigned to before.

From the nature of your question, I gather you are interested in Combat Arms. Both mentioned fields will get you time downrange if that is what you are looking for.

I was an Infantry Scout with the 82nd and in Korea with the 1st Cav. The Infantry Scouts have been around a lot longer than the Cav Scouts. I think you can enlist for a Cav Scout, Infantry Scouts are selected from volunteers in the IR's or PIR's whichever the case may be. You want an opinion? - You wannbe a Scout? go Cav. Odds are you will never be an Infantry Scout. Many volunteer, few are chosen.

I would definately go Infantry. Do that for a while and once you are in decide whether or not you want to be an Infantry Scout or not. That's just my opinion.
