New guy and need help
Hey guys,
My name is ben and im 20yrs old. I just signed up for the the army infantry on Sept. 1 05, and i am leaving for boot camp on Sept. 13. 05. I was signed to the M.O.S. of 11x and am not sure what this means, i heard for 11b and 11c but not 11x. Also i was a little disapponted about leaving for basic in 13 days, it doesnt give me enough time to get ready or anything. My recruiter just told me to show up to the recruiting office on the 12th and be ready to go to MEP's and ship out. Is there anythin that i need to know that would help me out for boot camp, before or during. thanks for any help -ben |

Re: New guy and need help
Welcome aboard the forums, and welcome to the United States Army.
11X: Infantry Enlistment Option 11X isn't actually an MOS (military cccupation speciality). Instead, it's an enlistment option. The Army does not offer a guaranteed job for any specific infantry MOS. Instead, one must enlist as an 11X. The "X" means that the specific job is not known at the time of enlistment. Individuals who enlist under the 11X Infantry option attend Infantry OSUT (One Station Unit Training), which combines Army Basic Training and Infantry AIT (Advanced Individual Training), all in one 17-week course. During that training, recruits are allowed to list their specific infantry job preferences, but ultimate assignments are determined by the needs of the Army. Upon graduation from OSUT, recruits are assigned to either 11B: Infantryman or 11C: Indirect Fire Infantryman. The major duties, physical demands, physical profile, and skill levels were obtained from Army Pamphlet 611-21. pdf file http://www.usapa.army.mil/pdffiles/p611_21.pdf Good luck |

Re: New guy and need help
ok thanks for the link.
When i signed up at MEP's i didnt get any sign on bonuses for joining infantry and wasnt told i could get any. I was talking to some people that just joined infantry and there getting really good bonuses because they signed for 11x. Did i just get screwed over on my signing? Or did i do something wrong. |

Not everyone qualifies for a bonus. If you weren't offered one, it's probably because you aren't qualified to receive one. Personally, I wouldn't want to be told, "we have bonuses, want one?" only to hear, "oops, sorry, no bonus for you."

Re: New guy and need help
The best way to get a bonus is to be a tough sell.
The Army offered me a lot of different incentives, a large signing bonus, a slightly smaller amount in cash in exchange for an even larger amount of money for college. The Marine Corps provided no incentives because I was an easy sell. If you already signed the contract, you can't expect to recieve a bonus now. I know at the end of MEPS when I was signing my final papers, one was emphasized more than all of the others. It's the bottom line. I give them four years, and I'm not promised a Lambourgini. Those were the exact words used by the Gunny. Sorry about any loss you may have to accept. -"Tom Hanks" |

Re: New guy and need help
as far as any help for before or during basic training, just remember that it's only as hard as you want to make it for yourself. it's pretty much just a mind game. the Drill Instructor's job is to break you down physically and mentally and then rebuild you to be an effective soldier. when you get down there, watch out for the fire ants. sand hill kind of sucks, but believe it or not, you will end up missing it after a while. i graduated from 11B in october of 2000 and i would do almost anything to go back. they wont let you go back once you've been through it already. oh well. either way have fun and do what your told.

Re: New guy and need help
It all depends on what your MOS is. after that make it seem hard for them to get you, or just be a good friend with recruiter like i am.

Re: New guy and need help
When I joined the army I got the 11x contract too and they gave me a 12k bonus. I leave for basic training on June 29, 2006 does anyone else in here leave for basic on June 29, 2006?

Re: New guy and need help
When you join the military certain MOS's have bonuses. I kn ow that 11x does have a pretty large one right now. Some recruiters don't offer them. I recieved 3000 while a friends of mine who joined a week later recieved 8000. It depends on what is available and the recruiter, my best advie would be to ask for it and keep asking, because it is usually out there.

Re: New guy and need help
I got 10k upfront after BCT/AIT and another 10k depending on me staying all 3 years with ARNG or contracting ROTC or not. I suppose I have an advantage over some of you guysthough, I'll have about 75 college c. hours at the end of this semester.
It was weird, I was just chatting with the SFC about why I wanted to join and he goes "Well normally most people want to see this first, but are you interested at all in seeing the cash stuff?" |
