"Normal" Cav scout is a combat arms MOS, therefore yes they are prone to combat. Infantry "scouts" are usually scout/snipers, members of LRS or Ranger units, etc.. However, "scouting" is an integral part of the infantry job description. I'm not sure what you're asking, really.

Take a look at the Divisional Cav Squadron in the 3rd Infantry Division. Scouts find the enemy and show the infantry where they are. The 3rd Infantry Division was led by the Cav Squadron In Iraqi Freedom, and yes they saw some pretty good fighting. If you are in a combat MOS you are going into battle.
