Mechanized Infantry...
It seems the infantry units in the KYARNG are mechanized, so I understand that they use some sort of APC...GlobalSecurity says M113....anyone in here have a better explanation or resource on mechanized infantry? Do they deploy in support of armor? Thanks in advance...

Re: Mechanized Infantry...
the M113 is an old troop transport that the mech guys use along with their bradleys. I think they are usually used in a support function ie. Medics.

Re: Mechanized Infantry...
we used to have 11b, 11m, 11h, 11c. Awhile back that army combined 11m, and 11h into 11b.
Now all we have is 11b and 11c. Infantryman and Indirectfire Infantryman (mortars) 11m was mechanized 11h was Anti Tank -JR |

Re: Mechanized Infantry...
right....I remember those now, when I went through basic the first time I had a DS that was an 11M. Of course, I don't remember him saying anything other than "front leaning rest position, MOVE!"

Re: Mechanized Infantry...
To give a broader answer to your question, mech infantry generally rides into battle on Bradleys and, to a lesser extent, 113's. Once there, they provide a dismount capability to complete the mission on foot in concert with tanks, with the Bradley weapons systems providing additional fire support. Mech infantry divisions/brigades generally have an organic tank element. Armored divisions/brigades generally have organic mech infantry. The two combine to form a sort of armor/infantry combo.
