Training and Combat

I have been back from Benning for a while now but one thing has always bothered me about my experience. I was at Benning this summer as a split Option Soldier so I did basic with the ITB this summer and I do Infantry AIT with the ITB next summer. Since I was there as a Split-Op they had to rush a through a couple of things. One of the few things that I never did was go through the night infiltration course. I was looking forward to it and thought that it was an important phase of training. However for some reason when we were supposed to go we never did. I don't remember exactly why we didn't go but My Drill Sargeant (who had been in the Special Forces and served in Iraq and Afghanistan) told us that it was something to do with the extreme heat of August and the tracers. He also told us that it was gay and that it was no where near close to real combat and that we could get the same effect by low crawling while he yelled bang, bang, bang really loud (which he never did, but probably would have been pretty comical to watch.) Anyways, I was just wondering about it recently and figured I should ask some others that have been through it and combat and see what they think. Should I be happy that I got a more relaxed day or should I be dissapointed that I missed out on some great training?

Now, I'm not an Army guy, but I've seen plenty of basic and entry level training -- you didn't miss anything special. Don't sweat it.

It won't effect you. It was a fun time. We did it at the end of out phase 3 FTX. But as far as training goes don't sweat it. Your not missing out on anything that will effect your preformance.
