Marine with Army Badges Question
Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. Thanks for reading my post.
I'm a Marine infantryman with ten years in, some active and some reserve. Six months in Iraq, in the beginning. I have an army question. Can someone who is bored enough this morning explain the Combat Infantry Badge? I understand there are several variations. I'm seeing wreaths and stars, and one badge with no devices on top at all. Also I'm hearing about a cord or rope that some or all grunts wear. Okay, lastly, how about the blue infanty disk? It's a plastic disk that's worn behind some kind of badge? To give it a blue rim? I'd like to know who rates which. I'm thinking one version is for school-trained grunts, and then more senior badges are for grunts who have seen combat? Thanks for your help. Marines don't rate a lot of badges, which is good and bad I guess. I'm still interested in my army counterparts, though. Jim |

Re: Marine with Army Badges Question
The Blue cord and disks are only awarded to the Infantry. The cord is worn on the shoulder, the disks worn beneith the "US" round pin and the Infantry round pin (crossed rifles). The Infantry badges you are asking about are the Expert Infantry Badge (rifle w/ no wreath) which is awarded for passing a number of "round robin" exercises (Infantry skills) then there is the Combat Infantry Badge (rifle w/ wreath) which is awarded to Infantrymen who have been in combat. The CIB with stars denote multiple conflicts.

Re: Marine with Army Badges Question
Yes the blue cord is worn on the right side of the uniform. There is a website with some information on the CIB if you need it.

Re: Marine with Army Badges Question
Well, I know that it's worn on the right shoulder, I proudly display mine whenever I'm in class A's. I was just asking if it was the only one worn on the right shoulder. Someone told me once but I've forgotten since.

Re: Marine with Army Badges Question
Each branch has a cord color. The infantry is the only ones that can wear then at all times though. When other branches wear then it is only at ceramonies like funeral details adn such.

Re: Marine with Army Badges Question
Yupper...BUT if you are a grunt NOT in your MOS or in a unit that has your MOS, you were your cord and the crossed rifle collar device but NO blue disks. I know this becasue im a 11C (Mortars) in a Avaition unit. My 1SG and I had a "discussion" about it. I pulled out AR 670-1. and showed him. I have a good top so he wrote it down and passed out the info at the next NCO call.

Re: Marine with Army Badges Question
Covertness hit the nail on the head.....cross rifles opposite u.s. insignia, blue discs beneath showing infantry, blue cord on right shoulder, eib is rifle, cib is rifle with wreath, cib with stars is multiply awards...ie..multiply tours that met cib rules
