Re: New "Proposed" Army Uniform.
Great idea. We need something more feasible for combat. All the velcro patches are lame. Still should be sewn on I think. The velcro is tacky. Getting your uniforms ready will be much easier though.

Over 150 dollars just so I could deploy to a warzone... Then I had to have all my BDU's redone when we got back.... Velcro is more cost effective for joe, and it allows us that spend our time out on patrols, etc. To sterilze our uniforms before an Op... My vote is for velcro. -JR |

Nothing like standing out in the middle of the wooded area wearing something that looks close to snow camo!...Umm this really isnt the only color being offered in the new digital camo is it?

Re: New "Proposed" Army Uniform.
The new ACU's are going to be issued to Deploying troops starting April '05. Anyone not issued them through a deployment will purchase them at $88 a set before the phase out date of the BDU's.

Re: New "Proposed" Army Uniform.
The same thing happened when we deployed to afghanistan we were issued teh DCU's or Desert Combat Uniforms...
ACU's are going to be fielded the same way. The troops that need them most (deploying) are going to be the ones issued them. The rest will have to buy 'em. -JR |

Re: New "Proposed" Army Uniform.
Sorry, I don't like 'em one bit. 'Course I'm old school. We wore the Jungle Fatigues when I served. I had four sets for garrison use and four sets of steriles for field use. I must add that we did not train with body armor, knee pads, etc. Old school.
No offense Jr. If it works for you young combat studs and if ya'll like 'em, I'm all for it. That and anything else ya'll think you need to help you kill people and break things. I like the new boots. 'Course they're basically the old Jungle Boots and I still wear the pair of those I was issued in '84. And while I'm on the topic of new uniforms.... Do you think the military can find a waste more of our money? How much do you think the Marines spent to develop and produce their new uniform? How much did the Army spend? I see the Air Force is coming out with their own uniform as well. Wonder how much they spent? Is the Navy next? Wonder how much they'll spend? How 'bout each of the services come up with their own personal weapons. The Army could use the 5.56mm, the Marines the 6.8mm, and just for grins we'll give the Air Force the 7.62mm but make it the Russian variety for flavor. WHAT! That wouldn't be cost effective????? Well whaddya know? Maybe next time the services will get together JOINTLY and come up with the next generation's uniforms. If it tastes good, spit it out If it makes too much sense, don't do it If you find a place that really sucks, set up camp Oh, and whoever said something about looking stupid in MY Black Beret. Run and hide... quickly. |

Re: New "Proposed" Army Uniform.
I'll definatly agree with you on the new boots. The ones they gave me in Afghanistan I actually dyed Black when we got back. I still wear em!
I also ordered a pair of the all leathers that were just approved by the Army. You can check 'em out they'r emade by Bellville. I used to swear by the old jungles... but I wouldn't even go back to those now. I did over 80+k at elevations from 9,000 to 15,000 ft in a span of 5 days in these boots... I will NEVER give them up! If you want to know exactly what we used it was the 390 Desert ST (lightweight summer) and the 790 Gortex boot (Garbage) I swear by the summers. The Gortex boot destroyed my feet, some of my boys never took the gortex boot off but I never noticed a difference in my feet being cold between the too plus once the gortex got wet.... the STAYED wet. Summers Winters*Note, these are going to be the new issue boots for the ACU's as well. -JR |
